Clear one app's cache from Settings when it is slow, stuck or using more temporary storage than expected. Do not clear storage unless you are prepared to sign in and set the app up again.

Quick answer: Open Settings and choose Apps.

Steps: Clear Cache on Android

  1. Open Settings and choose Apps.
  2. Tap See all apps, then select the problem app.
  3. Open Storage & cache.
  4. Tap Clear cache, reopen the app and test it.

Before you finish

  • Clear cache removes temporary files; Clear storage or Clear data resets the app.
  • Android does not need a routine whole-phone cache cleaner.
  • Samsung and other brands may label the menus slightly differently.

If the menu is different

Use the search box at the top of Settings and search for the key control in
this guide. Pixel uses Google's labels; Samsung, Motorola, OnePlus and other
manufacturers may move the same control or rename one level of the menu. Check
the support page for your exact model before using a reset or erase command.
